NICS Business Days Clarified

December 19, 2025

Let’s cut through the rumor mill and the group-chat lawyering.

Following President Trump’s Executive Order issued yesterday, December 18, the FFLGuard team has been directly in contact with FBI NICS to confirm how this impacts waiting-period calculations.

Here’s The Answer — Straight From the Source

December 24, December 25, and December 26 are NOT considered business days for NICS waiting-period purposes.

Not “maybe.”
Not “depends who you ask.”
Not “I heard from a guy.”

Confirmed.

That means if you’re counting days for a NICS delay, these dates do not count toward the statutory waiting period. Full stop.

As Always, Remember:

  • Federal regulations control the NICS business-day count
  • State and potentially local holidays are excluded from the NICS business-day count IN ADDITION TO Federal holidays
  • State-specific waiting periods still apply (if applicable)

When things change fast, assumptions are how licenses get burned.

This is exactly why the FFLGuard team stays in the room, make the calls, and give you answers you can actually rely on — not guesses wrapped in holiday chaos.

We’ll continue monitoring implementation guidance and will flag any further changes immediately.

Stay sharp.
Stay compliant.
And don’t let holiday math trip you up.
