Q: We asked whether a non-resident purchasing a long gun over the counter can present a purchase permit from their state specifically as a substitute for a NICS background check. The answer was no. Unfortunately, this transaction had already occurred by one of our part time sales people with a customer who was vacationing from another state. We tried unsuccessfully to contact the customer by phone while they were still in the state hoping to get the gun back, log it in, and then sell it correctly. Since then we have tried to contact customer at his provided number to no avail. What’s the best course of action at this point?
