Q: I’m unsure how to proceed with a disposition. I received a rifle into our logbooks properly. However, a customer bought a separate receiver that was defective, and brought it back for an exchange. The only identical receiver we had was part of this rifle in question, so they broke the rifle up into parts and I need to dispose just the receiver to this customer. (We still have the upper on hand.) How do I properly go about transferring this serial number from a rifle on-hand to a receiver so I can dispose it properly? Furthermore, when the defective receiver comes back from the manufacturer’s repair center, can we reattach it to the upper to sell it as a rifle again? Please feel free to contact me if you need further information.
