Q: We recently transferred a firearm (handgun sale) to an individual with an expired TX identification card. The sale was initiated thru NICS on 2/5/2015. The transfer occurred on 2/11/2015 after a NICS “proceed” response was given. However, upon further review, the transferee’s identification expired on 1/3/2015. I’ve tried contacting the individual to no avail. How can I stay in compliance with ATF concerning this oversight? Is there any leeway in regards to ID expiration dates as it pertains to the actual transfer date? Any advice or input would be appreciated.
