Q: In WI we have a mandatory 48 hour waiting period and a state run background check for handguns, long guns go through NICS. I’ll assume the answer is the same for both back ground checks. Question is: Is it improper to conduct a back ground check without having the firearm on premises? IE I have to order the gun in but run the back ground check right away so that the transfer may occur the day the firearms arrives and is logged into the A&D book. Will an ATF Audit check in and out dates against transfer dates and charge us with violations?
