Q: We buy, sell and trade used guns and offer gunsmithing services on site. The gunsmith shop does not have a separate FFL. 1) When we are buying a used gun is it legal for us to any accept any of it’s high cap magazines from the owner in with the trade? 2) Would it be legal for us to accept the high capacity magazine(s) if we then permanently modified them so they won’t hold more than 15 rounds? 3) Can we accept just a high capacity magazine, no receiver, from a customer and permanently modify their magazine(s)? 4) When modifying a magazine, what qualifies as permanent in Colorado? 5) Would it be legal for us to accept a just a rifled barrel, no receiver, less than 16″ long for the attachment and permanent pinning of a muzzle device that would leave the barrel length over 16″ when finished? 6) If a customer wants us to do the work mentioned in #5 and wanted to leave the whole gun, receiver and all, should it be done while the customer waits and/or should it be logged into our A&D records even if it comes in and leaves the same day?
