Q: We are producing silencer baffles. We currently use parts counters and weigh counting to determine the number of baffles produced. However, neither option is 100% accurate. We have run into the situation where we may have 5000 pcs produced off the press, but only 4000 get shipped. Some of the discrepancy is due to weigh counting, parts counters, some may be lost in the parts washing operation and some may be scrapped. Do we need to hand count and account for each piece after each operation? Do we need to hand count the scrap? Can we simply report the amount of the finished product produced at the last operation and then report the balance of the order as unserviceable and destroyed? Currently we are using a parts counter off the press and an automated packaging counter to put the parts into boxes for shipment. We are also weigh counting after the sort operation, but we have found discrepancies. We are actually destroying them in house, so there is nothing that is transported out of the facility unless it is a shipment to a customer.
