Q: We are located right on the border of Massachusetts. We had a police officer from out of state come in to purchase a handgun. This is something that happens all the time, and we have a protocol in place for it. There is another gun store right down the road from us, located in Massachusetts, that we transfer the firearms to and the MA customers will complete the background check and pick up the firearms there. Normally, an employee of the gun shop will simply come into our store and pick up the firearms to get them to MA. However, when this officer came in, one of our employees decided to give the officer the firearm so that he could take it to MA and have the background check conducted. The handgun was logged out to the MA gun store, and the officer did take it to the store and completed his background check and 4473 with no issues. What if anything should we do to rectify the situation? The employee will be disciplined and probably terminated.
