Q: We had a customer who came in, completed a 4473, and was put on DELAY. Store policy is after 7 days on a delay (with no further update from NICS) the customer may come in and complete the transaction. The customer came in yesterday in accordance with store policy and picked up the firearm. Today NICS called and said the status was DENY. We made this transfer in accordance with the regulations and store policy. We know we have to fill in box 21E (19e) and record the NICS examiner name for our records. Our concern is what now? Are we required to do anything else? Whose responsibility is it to collect the firearm? Whose responsibility is it to notify the appropriate agencies and what are the appropriate agencies? Your help in moving forward in this matter is appreciated.
