Q: We had a customer come in and leave a firearm for repair. We logged it into our repair log and disposed it to the manufacturer for repair. While the firearm was at the repair facility the same customer came in and attempted to purchase a firearm. The NICS reply came back as denied. The customer was given an appeal form and is currently pursuing that avenue. No sale occurred. Now the repair gun has arrived back into our store and has been logged into our repair log but due to the NICS denial we have reason to suspect she may not be allowed to possess a firearm and do not want to give a firearm back to a potentially prohibited person. How should we proceed? Who can pick up this firearm and what paperwork needs filed?
