NFA – Trust/Trustees in Different States

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: NFA Trust Question. If you have 2 Trustees and 1 Settlor of a NFA Trust and they all live in different states: Can they ship the NFA weapon(s) back and forth to each other for use on a temporary basis or must they physically transport them themselves? (so the weapon(s) would not permanently be relocated from the Form 1 or 4 listed address it would just be for say a few months) Would there be any paperwork filing required with NFA for this scenario (whether shipped or physically transported)?

Another question. Same setup as above except the weapon(s) will stay at the other trustees location and not be returned. Can they ship them to the other trustee or must they physically transport them and do they have to file NFA paperwork? (I assume they must file a change of address form 5320.20 for the permanent move if the address is different than the approved Form 1 or 4). Thanks!
