Q: Would it be LEGAL to take a original manufacture SBR, convert it to a pistol configuration, send a letter to ATF NFA to remove it from the NFA registry, and sell it as a title 1 over the counter pistol? Details: We have an over stock of SIG factory SBR rifles that we would like to make the following changes to: *Remove stock *Remove stock rifle buffer tube *Install pistol only buffer tube And then send a letter to ATF NFA branch letting them know we have permanently removed it from SBR configuration. No longer being NFA and in pistol configuration we would like to then sell it as a normal ?pistol/handgun? over the counter on a 4473 with no NFA approval. We think this would be allowed since the gun was built by the original manufacture directly into a SBR configuration and it was never a ?rifle?.
