NFA – Modifying barrel length and caliber for machine gun

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: If we purchase a ar15/m16 variant that is a post May sample that has a upper attached (lets say 10.5 inch for this example). Can we use the lower with other uppers? such as a 14 inch, or a 300 blackout 7 inch??? Must we keep the gun in the original configuration and only use the upper that came with it?? I would like to have one or two lowers and use multiple uppers to have more variety for my range rental customers. Is this possible? I always thought the lower was the registered part and uppers could be swapped. The following answer to one of my other questions has alarmed me….”Once you receive that MG it is incumbent on you to ensure it stays in the configuration that it was originally made. Verify the information on your Form 3 and the MG upon receipt. If any major changes are noted, contact us immediately. Minor changes can be made to a MG, but if that is something you intend to do in the future contact FFLGuard first”
