NFA – Gunsmithing Process

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: We currently maintain 3 active A&D books. We have an SOT and an 07. We do not sell or transfer our own SOT items. Our NFA log book only has our entries for our personal firearms and suppressors that are on site. Other than that it is not used for anything else. We often take Suppressors and SBR’s in to do gunsmith work on them (Cerakote). We log them in to our gunsmith A&D book. Then we then log them out when the customer picks up. While they are in our possession we require the customer to leave a copy of their tax stamp with us. This was done on our last ATF audit and nothing was mentioned to us about this. Is this the appropriate procedure ? If this is not correct I would like to speak to someone as soon as possible as we are due for an audit this week or next.
