NFA – Gunsmithing NFA Item While In Process

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: Recently a customer purchased a Silencerco Hybrid from us. We completed the Form 4 and related paperwork, and it was mailed to the NFA Branch last week. The customer contacted me today and informed me that he is having a rifle of his Cerakoted by a company called Liquid Concepts Custom Coatings in Alexander, AR. He informed me that Liquid Concepts is a Class 7 FFL with an SOT. He would like to have his Hybrid sent to them for Cerakoating while his rifle is there. The lead time on the work from Liquid Concepts is about 3 weeks, and he was wanting to get that taken care of while he was waiting anyway. Is it possible to send the Hybrid to Liquid Concepts (assuming we have their FFL and SOT) for Cerakoating while its “in process” with the NFA Branch? If possible, is it problematic in any way? If its not problematic, what is the proper way to proceed?
