Misc. – Destroying Firearms

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: From time to time, we’ve had to destroy firearms. This usually pertains to seized firearms acquired from law enforcement agencies where a gun is in such poor condition that selling it would not be practical. We’ve cut these guns up per BATFE procedure, made a photographic record of the destruction, and noted the gun(s) as DESTROYED (with date) in the disposition section of our A&D books. We’ve never known what to do with them once their destroyed so we’ve kept them in a box with the photographs. On our recent ATF audit the IOI told us that once the guns are destroyed, we can simply throw them away. Is this correct or do we need to hold on to them?
