Q: Looking for guidance please. Our shop is in a small town, and when reading the local paper about a raid on a house where 2 people were arrested, we immediately recognized both of them as customers. We also have a close relationship with our local Police Department (we have built their swat rifles and they get all of their duty/practice ammo from our shop etc), and they confirmed that there were receipts from our shop in the apartment when it was raided. Our A&D shows that we have sold 3 pistols, 2 lower receivers, 1 shotgun and 1 rifle to one of the roommates over the last year or so (all with Proceeds). We would like to provide the Police with copies of his 4473’s and serial numbers on what he has purchased from us to aid them in their investigation because we want to send a clear message that we are in no way involved with these two gentleman with the exception of them being customers. Of course we have NICS checks for every purchase and if one was buying for the other etc, we would have had no way and no indication of that. We do know (since we saw it in the paper), that one of them was a felon (drug related) and we know that he has purchased misc items and gun parts etc from us from time to time and would like to let the PD know that as well. Our question is : Is it ok to provide all info we have about these two guys without PD asking us to? Is there a template of a letter that we could use to do so? Is there anything that we should not do or say? We are not under investigation or anything like that, but we want to get ahead of this so that there is not a doubt in anyones mind that we are NOT the kind of business that condones people using us in this manner. Thank you for your assistance and should you wish to speak with me directly for more detail etc.
