Form 4473 – Corrections

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: We have a couple more questions regarding errors on ATF form 4473 which are noticed after the firearm is transferred and the guest has left the store. Our second question is regarding question two of ATF form 4473. If the transferee’s current residence address is inconsistent with the government-issued photo ID, which we photo copy for review, we contact the guest and require them to amend a photo copy of the 4473 or produce government-issued documentation to prove address. Following is a list of the inconsistencies because of which we contact the guest: -Guest did not list a cardinal direction (north, south, east, west) although one appears on ID -Guest did not list street designation (blvd, ave, st, etc.) although one appears on ID -Guest listed different zip code than ID (partial or entirely different) -Difference is spelling of street, city, or state -Numbers or letters which appear to be transposed when compared to ID. Similarly if the guest’s government-issued photo ID appears to have misspelled or missing address information as mentioned above, we require them to submit other government-issued documentation to prove the address listed on ATF form 4473. Is this how we should respond or are there simpler options?
