CA – Update on AB60 IDs

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: Hello! I looked up in the Library questions associated with the new CA Real ID, however, I don’t see an update as to latest developments. Word on the street is that if a person does not physically go in to the DMV to renew a license, and simply does it by internet or mail, as the majority of folks now do, they will be issued an AB 60 ID, that includes the same language that would be issued to an undocumented immigrant. The previous advice given says that FFLs must examine the back of the ID to determine if the language is there, and if it is, it cannot be used for the purchase and transfer of a firearm. My question is: Do we have any further updates from BATF and Cal DOJ regarding this? Also, to your knowledge, is that correct that those who renew by some other means than by physically going to the DMV, will their license have the language that prohibits us from using the ID for a firearm sale?
