Q: Regarding the ammo tax, does anyone actually have a process for collecting the tax? I mean in the accounting sense. I’m not selling them anything so there is nothing to ring up in the POS, and how am I supposed to know what they paid? I have asked these questions to CA BOE and they said ?I don’t know , just collect it an send it to us? and ? you’re the expert you decide what the value of the gun is.? These are not acceptable answers. They also told me that if it is a gift then it is not taxable – and if there is no receipt in the box and the customer tells you its a gift then so be it. Thoughts and guidance?
