Q: A client had an old bolt action Mauser receiver barreled and refinished. The company that did the work sent the completed rifle to us to transfer to the client. This rifle has no roll stamp identifying the manufacturer, country or manufacturer, model or serial number. The California DOJ’s DES requires either a manufacturer’s name or a country of manufacture in order to run a DROS transfer. When I phoned the California DES support line, I was informed that I needed to contact my DOJ field rep for guidance. That field rep is out of the office this week. Is there a way to transfer this rifle to our client and stay compliant with the California DOJ?
