Q: USC has been instructed by FFLGuard to use the marking on the plate to identify the serial number for firearms having a serial number plate. Attached is an image from a Walther pistol where the plate has a prefix “DE”. Today we don’t reflect DE as a part of the A&D serial number because it is not in the barcode from the manufacturer and the manufacturer is indicating that it is not part of the serial number. However, it is on the serial number plate. A customer was told by ATF that it should be included in the A&D. Walther is indicating it is a country code and not the serial number even though it is on the serial plate. We need confirmation to determine what we need to reflect and something in writing from Walther Compliance to state what the serial number is.
