Q: I wanted to know about altering my records and best practices I should follow regarding the changes in our policy when generating a 4473, but also with our records in our A&D bound book…..We had been using a cheat sheet when generating a 4473 for the manufacturer and importer…(the sheet listed all manufacturers and importers for the most common foreign made firearms that we dealt with) Springfield XDs were from HS PRODUKT, CROATIA/SPRINGFIELD ARMORY, Inc and FABRICA D’ARMI PIETRO BERETTA/BERETTA USA, Inc. etc. Recently however, we changed from the Sheet to going off of the physical gun…MUCH MORE ACCURATE, but my question is about the records in our A&D book… they all show our previous method of input, being the full name of the Manufacturer and or Importer (foreign made guns). My question is – should I go back into our records and change them to reflect how we’re going to be handling things? For example, an Austrian made GLOCK – our record for Glock would show the manufacturer being Glock GES M.B.H. Austria, Glock Inc USA and now we’re going to have our 4473 show what’s on the gun, Glock/Glock Inc. Should I go change our A&D records to reflect this for all the foreign guns and input what is on the gun into our book for all records (Glock/Glock Inc.)? Or do I do this moving forward and make a note in the book that we changed our policy of entering items into the book… And only have the guns that are coming in to the store start with the new method of input?
