Q: At a gun show on 8-1-2015 an employee ran a NICS check, after info was submitted for check, while waiting for the response, she was reviewing 4473 she saw box 11c checked as “yes”, she immediately stopped the transaction and the customer left the table. The NICS check was a delay and a few days later came back as a deny. I explained to the employee about how to properly screen the 4473 prior to the background check being done, but now we have a denied 4473 with box 11c checked yes. How do I handle this, even though a firearm was not transferred, if they did a trace on this deny they would question why a check was done when box 11c had a yes response. Do I type up a note to keep with the 4473 in the file or how should I handle this. We just finished a 100% compliant audit and I take this very seriously and I am not sure how to handle this.
