Misc. – Getting Rid of Prohibited Status

posted on January 18, 2019

Q: I am contacting you today because I have a question about a 4473 a customer filled out today. He filled it out and explained to me that when he was younger, he got in some trouble but had recently went to a police station and filled out a purchase permit, and was able to purchase a long gun. He was wondering if he was able to do the same here. I told him our process and he can fill out a form and I will take a look at it and we will go from there. Everything looked good on it except, he marked “yes” for 11c. I looked it over and explained to him that based on his answers, I am unable to run a background check or sell him a gun. He was extremely understanding about it and said that he knows its because he marked “yes” for that box and didn’t want to lie on the form but his question was, if there is a process that we do in partnership with the police department or anything along those lines, to where he could do the same process to purchase a long gun from us. I told him as far as I know, no but I can ask to be sure and told him that as of now, I have to treat this as a no sale but I would look into it for him. He said he understood and went on his way. Are you aware of anything like this?
